Training: Identifying and assessing AI Threats during EU EOMs and Election Campaigns

The Election Observation and Democracy Support (EODS) project organised an online advanced training on ”Identifying and assessing AI Threats during EU EOMs and Election Campaigns” for Media and Social Media Analysts, which took place on 22 October 2026.

The workshop aimed to strengthen Media and Social Media Analysts’ ability to identify how artificial intelligence (AI) can shape electoral campaigns and enable information manipulation. Through examples of different types of AI threats and interactive exercises, participants had the opportunity to learn how to identify, assess and document AI-related risks, while distinguishing what EU EOM analysts can realistically observe and report within the mission mandate and limited timeframe.

This training completes a series of three. Previous exercises covered methodological aspects on “identifying and assessing hate speech and hateful content during electoral campaigns” and “identifying and evaluating information manipulation and digital threats”.

The trainings were facilitated by researchers Inês Narciso and José Moreno, both with significant expertise and extensive experience in identifying and assessing digital threats to elections.
